At our February “Not Your Usual Networker,”  Lynn Sampson, owner of Oceanview Shades and Drapery, showed her stunning collection of home décor  to Miami NAWBO Miami members and guests. Unlike standard window treatments and ordinary textiles, Lynn’s store featured a delicious assortment of colors, designs and innovative solutions from shutters to custom bedding. She demonstrated how motorized shades can be programmed to raise and lower automatically in certain rooms to allow morning sunlight in, and close in the afternoon to protect furniture and art work from the harsh direct sun.

Lynn described how she had started her business in the design district and then decided to relocate to Coral Gables. She persistently pursued – and finally was granted – a Small Business Administration loan, helping her renovate the Gables location on Ponce de Leon Blvd. The company has won the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Diamond Award for "Retailer of the Year, among other honors.

NAWBO Miami signed a strategic partnership with the Small business Administration (SBA) to help women entrepreneurs grow and expand their businesses and increase access to capital through SBA counseling and contracting resources.

Representing the SBA was Jonel F. Hein, Deputy District Director, and Althea Harris. Signing the agreement were Deputy Director Hein (on the left) and NAWBO Miami President Jennifer Ohl (on the right).
